Short curriculum vitae

Christopher Kilburn is a Principal Research Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences at University College London. After five years in Naples, at the University of Naples and the Osservatorio Vesuviano, and a year at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, he has returned to London to pursue his primary research interests in physical volcanology and landslide dynamics in the new Benfield Grieg Hazard Research Centre at UCL. Recent publications include analyses of sturzstrom emplacement, slow rock failure as an eruption precursor (applied to the recent activity in Montserrat, where he served as Senior Scientist with the Montserrat Volcano Observatory), and the dynamics of basaltic lava flows.
