Specialisation

Geochemistry, mineralogy, geomorphology, biology, management and risk assessment of metal and arsenic contamination of river systems

Geochemistry, distribution and risk of arsenic in the surface environment

Environmental geochemistry and human health

Assessment and remediation of contaminated land
Research interests The main thrust of my research over the past 5 years has been to understand the geochemical, mineralogical and geomorphological controls on metal and arsenic contamination of the surficial environment (soil and water), and to quantify the risk that this contamination poses. Projects have been carried out in the UK, Spain, Cyprus, India, Australia and Bolivia. I am intending to extend this research into developing models for management of contaminated land and for reducing risk to human populations that are affected by such contamination. These models, and methodologies used to develop them, will be generic and applicable to other areas of the world affected by metal and arsenic contamination.
