EuroTempest

EuroTempest provides real-time forecasts out to 5 days ahead
for European windstorms and their localised potential wind damage.

The interactive web-based service http://www.eurotempest.com offers local damage forecasts, down to postcode level, for winter storms affecting seven European countries (United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands). The new service also includes warnings for the severity and timing of high windspeeds in all other European countries.

The innovative tool enables insurers, reinsurers and risk managers to monitor threatening windstorms, assess their damage potential and take pre-emptive action. EuroTempest will also support decision making in a wide range of other European industries where business performance is adversely affected by high windspeeds.

EuroTempest was created by experts on (re)insurance, loss modelling and extreme weather forecasting and tracking from Benfield, Royal & SunAlliance, GE Insurance Solutions and the Meteorological Hazards & Seasonal Forecasting research team from the Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre at University College London (UCL), who won a British Insurance Award in 2004 for their global TSR tropical storm tracker.

European windstorms are severe extra-tropical cyclones which form usually in the North Atlantic during winter and track towards northwest Europe. They account for 70-75% of all European insured losses since 1970.

Register now at http://www.eurotempest.com for the most advanced real-time forecasts of high windspeeds and localised potential wind damage from winter storms.
