About Volcanoes

The BHRC has a particular strength in aspects of volcanic hazard and risk, with three volcanologists on the staff and four PhD students currently working on volcanic hazard and risk related studies. Recent research has focused upon:

• Volcano instability and collapse
• Eruption prediction (Project VOLCALERT)
• Improving communication during volcanic emergencies (Project CARIB)
• Insurance aspects of volcanic risk

Recent consultancies have been undertaken on: claims validation following eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano (Montserrat); volcanic risk in Indonesia, volcanic risk in the Caribbean; volcanic risk in Iceland.
